THE TREES
Throughout the entire value chain – from tree to shop - the SweeTango™ apple is treated with greatest care in order to safeguard its unique appearance and taste. The creation of a new apple variety is a slow, complicated process. Getting to the desired result can take decades, cross after cross. Our young SweeTango™ trees are planted by hand and carefully nurtured during the first 12-18 months of their life. Later, our trees are moved to bigger orchards nearby where they are provided with food, water and sunlight, protected from pests and winter frosts. SweeTango™ trees have thick foliage, making it harder for our apples to ripen in time. It can take up to 3 years for a young apple tree to produce fruits.
THE SHEARS
From mid-August to November, SweeTango™ is delicately hand-picked. Each apple at a time – which means we keep going back to the same tree to check each fruit’s color and flesh. SweeTango™ apples are very delicate and have a strong stem that needs to be cut down during the picking process; otherwise, it could damage the other apples.
THE CRATES
Finally, our apples get transported from our orchards to our stores. We use special foam mats and smaller sized vans to ensure the least bump&dent factor possible. As soon as they arrive to their final destination, our SweeTango™ apples are best stocked cold, in order to preserve their freshness, juiciness and crunch as long as we can. Make sure to do the same!
